This Basic STCW course meets the minimum requirements for seafarers or those wishing to join the industry.

Certification
Delegates will be required to complete a short exam and practical exercises in order to be issued with an MCA approved:
STCW Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques certificate; Regulation VI/1, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/1, paragraph 2.1.1 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978 as amended.
STCW Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting; Regulation VI/1, paragraph 1 and section A-VI/1, paragraph 2.1.2 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
STCW Elementary First Aid; Regulation VI/1, paragraph 1 and section A-VI/1, paragraph 2.1.3 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities; Regulation VI/1, paragraph 2.1.4 of of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
Plus
STCW Security Awareness, Regulation VI/6, paragraph1 and section A-VI/6, paragraphs 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.
The 2010 Manila Amendments to the STCW Convention1978 stipulate that Seafarers are required, every five years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standards of competence to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities regarding emergency, occupational safety and survival functions. This includes Personal Survival Techniques & Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting.
Prerequisites
- Be at least 16 years of age.
- This course will be physically demanding and therefore you will be required to complete a fitness declaration.
- You will also be required to wear a Self Contained Breathing Apparatus which weighs 18kg.
Special Requirements
For FPFF: Boiler suits & boots will be provided, but we recommend that you wear appropriate clothing underneath which will not suffer from the taint of smoke, thick socks are also advisable. PPE will be provided. If you wear glasses you will need to remove these, therefore contact lenses are advisable. Please remove all jewellery. Lockers for personal effects are provided and showers are available if needed, but you will be required to bring your own towel.
For PST: Please bring a towel. Swimwear to be worn underneath t-shirt and shorts. Showers are provided.
