    Description

    This course will consist of theory and a waterborne cap-size scenario in our Survival Pool.

    Outcome: The learner is able to maintain the required standard of competence in Fast Rescue Boats

    Learning objectives:

    1. Explain routine maintenance procedures for FRB and measures for contingency repairs
    2. Carry out pre-use checks of FRB, including engines and related rescue equipment
    3. Carry out PPE checks for crew and self
    4. Brief crew for recovery duties
    5. Recover a casualty from the water and effect their safe transfer to a place of safety
    6. Undertake waterborne capsize of FRB in controlled environment
    7. Carry out post capsize procedures, including right of FRB whilst swimming in appropriate equipment
    8. Re board FRB and establish control of craft and available equipment.

    Special Requirements

    • This course will include a waterborne cap-size in our Survival Pool.
    • PPE will be provided but please bring your Swimwear & Towel. 
    • Showers are provided.

    Prerequisites

    1. Hold a Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats certificate
    2. Delegates must confirm by the signing and completing the self-declaration form that they have completed the below through onboard training:
      • Control safe launching and recovery of fast rescue craft
      • Handle a fast rescue boat in prevailing weather and sea conditions
      • Use communications and signalling equipment between the fast rescue boat and a helicopter and a ship
      • Use the emergency equipment carried
      • Carry out search patterns, taking account of environmental factors
    3. This course will include a waterborne cap-size and re-boarding scenario in our Survival Pool which you will need to demonstrate unaided and demonstrate casualty recovery involving a 35kg Ruth Lee manikin.

    NOTE: Due to the physically demanding nature of this course you will be required to complete a Fitness Declaration form on the day to make us aware of any medical issues, injuries or disabilities.  This form will be shared with the trainers for awareness.  If you have any concerns regarding fitness please contact us to discuss further. 

     

    Certification

    In order to be issued with an MCA approved STCW Updated Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats certificate: Regulation VI/2, paragraph 2 and section A-VI/2, paragraph 11 and 12 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978 as amended you will need to successfully pass the below:

    Theory Assessments: Our assessments are now on an electronic format where you will need to scan a QR code. For this please bring with you an electronic device (example: mobile phone, iPad, tablet) that can scan the QR Code. Printed versions of the assessments are still available if required.  

    Practical Assessment: successfully demonstrate unaided a waterborne cap-size and re-boarding scenario in our Survival Pool including casualty recovery involving a 35kg Ruth Lee manikin.
